Smiths Falls Midget AAA uses shootout to best Kemptville Midget AAA, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Smiths Falls Midget AAA Bears defeated the Kemptville Midget AAA 73s in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. Kemptville Midget AAA got a shootout goal from Alex Kerlovich. In addition to the clincher, Smiths Falls Midget AAA got a shootout goal from Sebastien Semerdjiev.

The Bears stifled the 73s’ power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Smiths Falls Midget AAA forced Kemptville Midget AAA goalie Jacob Dioszeghy to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Bears were helped by Connor Drost, who had one goal. Drost scored 7:32 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Semerdjiev assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Smiths Falls Midget AAA included Matthew Bidin and Dylan McMahon, who scored one goal each. In addition, Smiths Falls Midget AAA received assists from Brock Boisclair, Michael Hogan, and Josh Bifolchi, who each chipped in one.

Smiths Falls Midget AAA was unable to stop the 73s from sending pucks towards the net, and Kemptville Midget AAA eventually piled up 49 shots on goal.

The 73s were helped by Brady Elder, who registered one goal. Elder scored 2:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kemptville Midget AAA. Mike Armstrong picked up the assist. Kemptville Midget AAA also had goals scored by Zach Cohen and Ryan Pawlikowski, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Kemptville Midget AAA were John Beaton and Jack York, who contributed one each.

Alex Zoutis made 46 saves for the Bears on 49 shots. Smiths Falls Midget AAA incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Kemptville Midget AAA’s Dioszeghy stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The 73s incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
