Hawkesbury Midget AAA uses early goal to top OHA U18 Midget AAA, 4-2

The Hawkesbury Midget AAA Hawks beat the OHA U18 Midget AAA OHA U17, 4-2, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

A goal 11:26 into the first period by Ryan Wells proved to be the game winner, and powered Hawkesbury Midget AAA to the victory. Shownahnonkon Thompson assisted on the tally.

Wells was all over the ice for the Hawks, as he had two goals in the win.

Hawkesbury Midget AAA kept OHA U18 Midget AAA’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Danick Francoeur made 27 saves on 31 shots. The Hawks bested their season scoring average. Hawkesbury Midget AAA averages 1.8 goal per game.

Hawkesbury Midget AAA also got points from Mathieu Grandmont, who also registered one goal and one assist. Adam Levesque also scored for Hawkesbury Midget AAA. Other players who recorded assists for Hawkesbury Midget AAA were Alex Elie, who had three and Martin Lavigne, Luke Paquette, and Cameron Buck, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks were unable to stop the OHA U17 from sending pucks towards the net, and OHA U18 Midget AAA eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

The OHA U17 were helped by Justin Poirier, who grabbed one goal. Poirier scored on the power play 10:29 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hawkesbury Midget AAA. OHA U18 Midget AAA earned a power play opportunity when Thompson was put in the box for cross checking. Julien Allard provided the assist. OHA U18 Midget AAA also got a goal from Jon Vandermolen as well. More assists for OHA U18 Midget AAA came via Heath Ford and Egidio Porreca, who contributed one each.

Alex Labreche rejected 29 shots on goal for Hawkesbury Midget AAA. The Hawks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The OHA U17 incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
