Cornwall Midget AAA vanquishes Brockville Midget AAA in shootout, 6-5 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cornwall Midget AAA Colts defeated the Brockville Midget AAA Braves in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams. Brockville Midget AAA’s shootout goal was scored by Griffin Patterson. Cornwall Midget AAA also got a shootout goal from Joseph Samson.

The Colts saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Cornwall Midget AAA made the score 5-3 on a goal by Brant Woodside at 9:28 in the third period. The Braves evened things up at 5-5 on a goal by Adam VanEttinger at 17:05 in the third period.

In the losing effort, Brockville Midget AAA was paced by Serron Noel, who registered two goals. Noel scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:18 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Cornwall Midget AAA. The Braves had gained a power play chance when Mathew Harrington was whistled for interference. Patterson provided the assist. Noel’s next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Cornwall Midget AAA with 7:20 left in the third period. Jared Patterson picked up the assist.

The Colts’ offense rang up 35 shots on Brockville Midget AAA’s net. Cornwall Midget AAA surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Colts average 2.8 goals per contest. The defensemen of Cornwall Midget AAA were also effective in the Braves’ zone, and came away with two goals.

Cornwall Midget AAA additionally got points from Ryan Lamer, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Cornwall Midget AAA included Samson, Noah Konink, and Ethan Mulhearn, who each put in one. More assists for Cornwall Midget AAA came via Alec Seguin, who had two and Jonah Peters and Hunter Duchesne, who contributed one each.

Brockville Midget AAA kept the Colts’ goalie busy throughout the game, and Grant Craig made 44 saves on 49 shots. The Braves’ goal total was higher than their season average. Brockville Midget AAA averages 2.4 goals per game. The Braves’ penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Brockville Midget AAA finished with 14 penalty minutes. The Braves got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Brockville Midget AAA also got points from Patterson, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Brockville Midget AAA were Cameron Hebert and Colin Marshall, who each chipped in one.

Cornwall Midget AAA incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Kyle Herbison recorded 29 saves for Brockville Midget AAA. The Braves registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
